Abstract

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to find out whether the lipid profile and inflammatory marker affect serum Gammaglutamyl transferase (¥ã-GT) in pre- and post-menopausal women.
Methods: Among the women who have visited the Health Promotion Centre in a university hospital between April, 2004 and April, 2005, we selected 1,774 women ruling out viral hepatitis carriers.
Results: While serum ¥ã-GT was significantly correlated to all the serum lipid profile in pre-menopausal women, it didn¡¯t have correlation with CRP. On the other hand, in post-menopausal women, total cholesterol, triglyceride, low density lipoprotein (LDL), and CRP were significantly correlated to serum ¥ã-GT. In multiple regression analysis adjusting for potential confounders, the total cholesterol, triglyceride, and high density lipoprotein (HDL) were the variables which affect serum ¥ã-GT in pre-menopausal women and total cholesterol and CRP were the variables in post-menopausal women.
Conclusion: In this study, total cholesterol, HDL, and TG have influence on serum ¥ã-GT in pre-menopausal women and total cholesterol and CRP affect serum ¥ã-GT in post-menopausal women.
